Ultrasound

In emergency cases you examination will be done as soon as possible. Please be patient if you have an appointment and are asked to wait when an emergency comes in.
There is a pre-booking system – once you receive the form from your referring doctor – an appointment can be made either by your referring doctor or by yourself telephonically
No pre-admission is required
Abdominal ultrasound imaging is most effective if you are adequately starved prior to the examination – the following guidelines apply
- Children < 1 month: 2 hrs prior NPO (Nil per mouth)
- Children 1 month – 1 year: 3-4 hrs prior NPO
- Children 1 yr – 18 months: 4 hrs NPO
- Children >18 months – 4 yrs: 5-6 hrs NPO
- Older children and adults: 6-8 hrs NPO
No sedation is required for this examination
You are welcome to accompany your child for the examination – in fact, we actually encourage it – in so doing, you can see what we see and your child feels safe
The examination times varies from 10 – 30 minutes
No contrast or side effects
